5 Quick Google Business Profile Fixes That Actually Get You More Calls

Running a local business means you’re juggling everything—clients, operations, marketing… and probably ignoring your Google Business Profile. But that free little box on the side of the screen? It’s doing more work than you think.

Here are 5 simple GBP updates you can make today to help people find you, trust you, and call you.

1. Add (Real) Services and Descriptions

This is low-hanging fruit. Inside your GBP, you can list your actual services—and write short descriptions for each one.

💡 Pro tip: Use real keywords people are searching. For example, I don’t just list “Web Design.” I say:

“Modern, mobile-friendly website design for small businesses in Denton and across DFW.”

Use your city name. Use your industry. Keep it natural, but Google loves that local relevance.

2. Add More Categories

Most folks set their primary category and never touch the rest. But you can add up to 9.

If your primary is “Marketing Agency,” add “Web Designer,” “Advertising Service,” or even “Consultant” depending on what you offer.

Each one is a new way to get found.

3. Post an Offer

This is my favorite underrated move. Google lets you post limited-time offers that show up right on your profile.

Even something small like “10% off first-time service” or “Free quote this week” makes you stand out from the other 9 listings people are scrolling past.

You can even throw in an image—just make sure it’s the right size (700x435px is the sweet spot).

4. Use the Q&A Section (Proactively)

Most people wait for a customer to ask questions. Don’t.

You can ask and answer your own FAQs. This not only helps visitors, but it tells Google more about your business.

Ask things like:

Answer naturally, and drop in your location and service keywords when it makes sense.

5. Post Once a Week

I know… it’s one more thing. But even just reposting something from Instagram or Facebook keeps your profile active and tells Google you’re open for business.

Don’t forget:

Final Thoughts

Your Google Business Profile doesn’t need to be perfect—but it does need to be active. A few smart tweaks can help you show up higher in search results, build trust with potential customers, and get more people to reach out.

If this all still sounds like a headache, I help small business owners with local SEO and monthly GBP optimization.

To rank higher locally, optimize your profile with accurate categories, detailed service descriptions using local keywords, weekly posts, and consistent updates.

You can absolutely manage it yourself, but many small business owners hire help to save time and ensure it’s done right. Even basic monthly maintenance can make a big difference.

Keep it simple and real—like “10% off your first visit” or “Free quote this week only.” Offers help you stand out and encourage more people to click or call.
